Friday was a Science Packed Day!!! I hope your third grader told you all about the fun things we did!

Character Counts: Our character focus for September is Trustworthiness. We will be reading stories and having discussions about becoming Trustworthy and what that means.

MATH: Today we have our end of Unit 1 Test. Tuesday we will begin Topic 2: Multiplication Facts Use Patterns. HOMEWORK ON TUESDAY AND THURSDAY.

WRITING: During the first quarter of Third Grade we will be working on Personal Narratives.  

READING: In our Reading this week, we are working on Context Clues. We will look at different authors and stories to see how give clues in the story to reveal information without actually telling readers. READING HOMEWORK PACKET AND READING CALENDAR THIS WEEK. READING CALENDARS DUE TOMORROW!

Student of the Week: Our students of the week for 9/29 – 10/3 are Aiden and Anabelle. They will be able to share Thursday, October 3 at 1:20.

I hope your weekend has been a relaxing one. Thursday was such a fun day in Third Grade! I hope our students can earn another party soon!

MATH: This week in Math we are concluding our introduction to Multiplication! We will spend the week reviewing and preparing for the end of Unit 1 Test. The test will be Monday, September 29^th. NO HOMEWORK ON TUESDAY AND THURSDAY. Some review pages will come home during the week for students to study for the test.

WRITING: During the first quarter of Third Grade we will be working on Personal Narratives. We are taking things very slowly, but my students are doing very well!

READING: In our Reading this week, we are working on Characters and Character Traits. We will look at different authors and stories to see how different characters are described. READING HOMEWORK PACKET AND READING CALENDAR THIS WEEK.

We had a great week this week. I do need to follow up on a situation that has come up in our class. We have had a little problem with students bringing things from home to play with at recess. In our Vision Student Handbook, it states that toys from home are not allowed at school. That includes sports equipment, stuffed animals, etc. For my classroom, I would like to amend this by adding that this also includes any jewelry, notebooks, glitter pens, mechanical pencils, etc. that BECOME toys. These articles alone are not disruptive. However, when a student plays with them during class they become a disruption.

MATH: This week in Math we are beginning our introduction to Multiplication! I know it seems counter intuitive to begin the year with such a new and, often, difficult area of math. There is a method to our madness. We begin very slowly and build on students’ knowledge. Then we review the multiplication facts all year. In this way, my third graders often go into 4^th grade with a solid knowledge of all multiplication facts. HOMEWORK ON TUESDAY AND THURSDAY.
